Coos Curry Electric Cooperative (CCEC) Board Directors Daniel Loshbaugh and Jim Kolen were recognized at the last board meeting held on May 25, 2023, for successfully completing the National Rural Electric Association (NRECA) courses and receiving their NRECA certifications.
Loshbaugh earned the NRECA Board Leadership Certificate, which is the second part of the director education program. The program requires the completion of a series of courses focusing in greater depth on specific industry and governance issues, such as risk management, power supply, parliamentary procedure, technology and policy development. Directors must first obtain the Credentialed Cooperative Director Certificate and then complete a total of 10 additional training credits for the advanced Board Leadership Certification.
Kolen earned the NRECA Director Gold Certificate, which is the highest level of certification available to directors. The Director Gold Certificate is a testament to a director's ongoing commitment to enhancing their knowledge and fulfilling their fiduciary duty to the best of their abilities. To earn the Director Gold Certificate, directors must first obtain the NRECA's CCD and BLC certificates and complete three additional training credits from the BLC courses.
Brent Bischoff, CCEC's CEO, said, “It is great to see the commitment Directors Kolen and Loshbaugh have to strengthening their knowledge of cooperative governance! The Credentialed Cooperative Director certification is the minimum education requirement set by board policy. Jim and Dan have gone above and beyond the requirement.”
Loshbaugh has been a CCEC Board Director since 2016 and Kolen has been a CCEC Board Director since 2009 and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Board.
