[PORT ORFORD, OR]- Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative, Inc. (CCEC) has been awarded a $1,128,388 grid resilience grant from the Oregon Department of Energy (ODOE) and U.S. Department of Energy (USDOE) through the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act’s Grid Resilience program.
This grant will fund the Frenchie Creek Project, in Remote, Oregon, to increase the reliability of electric service along highway 42 in Coos County. The project will replace 2.2 miles of overhead powerline with underground lines as identified in CCEC’s long-range plan. This area has experienced frequent outages caused by severe weather and trees falling from outside the right-of-way, damaging the power line.
"We appreciate this much-needed grant award from ODOE!" said Brent Bischoff, CEO of CCEC, "It will enable us to accomplish this important project sooner than expected to significantly improve reliability in an outage-prone area and simultaneously mitigate wildfire risk.”
The project will begin in 2025 soon after the grant award is under contract. For more information, please contact CCEC at (541) 332-3931 or ms@cooscurryelectric.com
