Power Outage Tips
- Check your home's breaker panel (and any outdoor disconnects) to make sure the outage is not due to a tripped breaker.
- Check to see if your neighbor's power is off. This will help you determine if the problem exists within your home or on our lines.
- If you determine the problem is outside your home, please call Coos-Curry Electric Cooperative (866) 352-9044.
- Keep your freezer and refrigerator doors closed. If the door remains closed food and perishable items will last longer. If the outage persists, cover your freezer or refrigerator with a blanket, and make arrangements to store food at another location.
- Turn off all electrical appliances that were on prior to the power being off, especially heat pumps, air conditioners, or electric heaters. Leave a light on so you'll know when power has been restored.
Extended outages can happen unannounced. The best way to get through an extended outage is to be prepared at all times. Consider finding accommodations for children, elderly relatives, and anyone who is ill. Below are a few tips on how to prepare:
- Keep flashlights, portable wireless chargers, and portable radios on hand with a supply of extra batteries. Make sure batteries are charged in advance.
- Keep refrigerator and freezer doors closed.
- Do not cook inside with charcoal. Be extra careful lighting with exposed flames such as candles, kerosene lamps, heaters, and fireplaces.
- Have a supply of potable water on hand.
- Consider getting dry ice to keep your perishable items cold.
